Betfred’s site certainly lives up to the name of its physical counterparts. They have a solid betting offer, useful promotions, helpful support, and amazing little quirks, such as Pick your Punt or live commentary. On the other hand, introducing new currencies certainly wouldn’t hurt them. We hope our Betfred review cleared up some questions and helped you make the right decision. Thank you for your time – and good luck.
Betfred Review
As one of the oldest bookmakers in the UK, Betfred has garnered a solid reputation and a wide customer base. The website boasts a decent assortment of sports, great mobile apps for both operating systems, and a wide array of useful bonuses. We invite you to stay with us for our Betfred review as we introduce you to all of their quirks and give our objective opinions on their offers and services.
Pros / Cons
Long-standing Reputation
Hefty welcome offer
Amazing Interface
A wide array of sports
A small number of banking options
Company with a History
Their story starts a long time ago, before Betfred was moved to Gibraltar, when it was a humble little betting shop called Done Bookmakers run by brothers Fred and Peter Done in Ordsall, UK. They raised the capital by winning a bet at a local betting shop that England would win the 1966 World Cup. Since then, the company has expanded and by 2000, they had more than 200 shops all over Greater London.
The company changed its name to Betfred in 2004, which coincided with the launch of its website. Here’s a fact you probably won’t find in other Betfred reviews in 2018: by the start of the 2010s, they had become so large from acquiring smaller websites like Coral, Ladbrokes, and Tote that the government had to intervene to prevent a potential monopoly.
Today, it is a betting juggernaut probably best known for being the official sponsor of various horse racing, rugby, snooker, and football championships.
Setting Up
Before we explore Betfred’s offers, let’s go through a detailed registration walkthrough. As we start with this part of our review, note that the registration contains a special Betfred promo code section – but more on that later.
First, you’ll have to find the large green ‘Register’ button in the top right corner of the page. Once you click on it, you’ll find yourself on the signup page. The registration is fairly simple and quick: all you need to do is type in basic information – your gender, name, phone number, address, date of birth, username, password, and email. Once everything is entered, you’re taken to your account page, so there’s no need to complete an additional Betfred login. On your account page, you can further customise your profile and see whether you’re interested in their marketing offers.
We already noted that Betfred has a special field on the registration page for entering a promo code. You should be on the constant look-out because it changes periodically: for example, the promo code as of this writing is SPORTS60. With this code you can claim the Betfred welcome offer – but hold on just a bit longer until we further analyse it in our bonus section.
A Bonus for Every Occasion
Betfred has one of the better bonus offers among the UK betting sites. There are 15 different bonuses you can claim, and not one of them is bad, or just a promo gimmick designed to suck you in. Every bonus has something that can give you a great boost when you need it.
First, there is the new client Bet £10 Get £50 Betfred free bet offer. If you make an initial deposit of £10 and bet on cumulative odds of 2.0 on any sport, match, or race, Betfred will match it by 300% (a rarity in the business), and give you £30 in free bets that you can place on any bet (also a rarity in the business). Note that it’s very important that you place one bet of £10, not two of £5 each or any other combination.
When Do I Get My Betfred Free Bet?
Once you’ve placed your deposit, you have 60 days to make a qualifying bet. It may take Betfred up to 10 hours to credit those free bets to your account, and Betfred holds the right to ask for additional document verification or verification by SMS, which, again, you have 60 days to complete.
Also, be warned that although it takes only 10 hours to receive the bonus, it might take much longer to claim the wins you make with it. If you’re wondering how to use the Betfred free bet offer, you’ll be happy to hear that there’s no special philosophy to using the free bets. Once you get them, they will be visible in your balance. From there, you can place them on whichever match or race you desire.
Now that you know more about free bets, let’s take a look at some other offers. First, there is the great second-to-SP-favourite horse racing bonus. If your favourite comes in second after the SP favourite on any race, they will refund your original stake by up to £10.
There’s another offer that you won’t find in any Betfred reviews out there, and that is the Pick Your Punt programme. You are finally free to build your bet how it suits you, without waiting for a bookmaker.
For example, if you want Chelsea to win leading by two in the second half, just write it down, send it to Betfred via email or Twitter, and they will approve your own personalised bet. Considering the freedom this gives to punters, this bonus may be the best one on our Betfred review.
And finally, we’d like to single out one more bonus – the Double Delight & Hat-Trick Heaven. Double Delight lets you double your win if your favourite players score the first two goals. If your favourite goes on to do a hat trick in the next 90 minutes, then you’ll receive the Hat-Trick Heaven bonus, where they will triple your initial win.
Before you start claiming the bonuses, note that some of the promotions can be transferred to the Betfred mobile app, so make sure you read the Terms and Conditions first.
How To Cash In
Depositing at Betfred is hassle-free and can be done in a couple of minutes. When you log in, find the ‘Deposit’ button at the top right corner of the homepage, right next to the ‘My Account’ button. From there you’ll be taken to the Deposit page, where you can see your existing balance and choose your desired depositing method.
We are happy to note in our Betfred review that they have nine payment methods including, Mastercard and Visa (debit only for the UK players), Visa Checkout, Skrill, Skrill 1-Tap, Neteller, Paysafecard, and Bacs. However, note that they only accept euros, dollars, and pounds sterling, and that Visa and Mastercard holders have a minimum deposit of €7, while all the others are set at €10 with the exception of Bacs users, who will have to cash in at least €125 before playing.
Fun Section
After the formalities are out of the way, it’s time for an in-depth look at the Betfred sportsbook. On the homepage, click on the ‘Sports’ button in the top left corner, right below the logo. You’ll arrive on their Sports page, where you have today’s matches and races in the centre of the page and selected sports on the left.
You can place bets right there from the Sports page by clicking on the odds next to the name of the match/race. A bet slip appears on the right side, where you can increase your stake or change to another type of the bet.
If you choose by sport and pick, let’s say, Betfred football bets, you’ll be taken to a special page where all the matches are organised by various categories: leagues, tournaments, countries, etc.
Once you place your bet it appears on your account page, or you can view it from the slip on the homepage. Note that you can’t change or cancel bets once you’ve placed them, so make sure you choose wisely before you invest because there’s no turning back.
There’s also one more interesting feature that you won’t find on any other Betfred reviews: Next to every live or upcoming match, you’ll find a ‘Live Commentary’ button. If you click on it, you can follow live statistics for all the upcoming races and games. This can be a great resource when you’re in doubt as to what to bet on.
How to Cash Out
Withdrawing is as easy as depositing. On the right-hand side, where your betslip should be, you’ll find a ‘Cash Out’ button. We had no Betfred withdrawal problemsand found the process to be quite easy, actually.
When you click on the button, you’ll find yourself on the Withdrawal page. From there, choose your payment method and the amount you want to take out, and that’s pretty much it. Note that Betfred still holds the right to ask for document photos in order to verify your account. Also, if you make several withdrawals in one day, Betfred will most likely process them as one withdrawal, and add all your money together.
As for the Betfred withdrawal time, it varies from method to method. If you use E-Wallet, as we did, your withdrawal can take up to three hours. Bank transfers are the slowest, with a wait time of up to 48 hours.
Spotless Hub
Betfred’s interface contains everything a decent sports betting website should have. The design, loading times, and the overall quality are clear signs of hard effort and years of experience. The site is loaded with all the info you may need during gameplay, plus some interesting novelty features. There is even a Betfred store locator!
The content is neatly organised with live matches and races occupying most of the centre of the screen. You have your sports under a drop-down menu on the left page, where you’ll also find a ‘Live Chat’ button. Underneath it are quick links to your favourites, suggested matches, live commentary section, and betting news.
The right-hand side contains all the data pertaining to your account: deposit, withdrawal, messages, and the link to your account page. Underneath, you’ll find your bet slip containing all your bets, today’s promotions, social media buttons, and a ‘Pick Your Punt’ link.
Now, you might find an occasional customer review in which somebody complains about their Betfred free bet not showing. To see whether or not you can use a free bet, you first have to click on any odds inside the sportsbook. After that, find a small dialogue box on your bet slip that says ‘Place a bet as free balance’. If that option is available, it means you can place your free bet. If not, you’ll have to find some other event.
The bottom of the screen, as usual, contains all the legal documents: Terms and Conditions, security, privacy, contact forms, FAQ, licensing information, and responsible gaming information.
You’re in Good Company
The security is up to date and highly reassuring. The license states that the company is registered in Gibraltar as Petfre Gibraltar, and is regulated both by the Gambling Commission of Great Britain (licence number 000-039544-R-319290-002) and the Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner (RGL no. 036 & 038). As for the fairness of their bets, Betfred is a member of ESSA and their stamp of approval guarantees fair play and safe betting.
If at any point you encounter any problems, there is a Betfred live chat window that’s fixed in the bottom-left corner of the page. After you click on it, select the subject and your username. We asked a couple of general questions to the operator, and they were fast and helpful, satisfying our doubts in a matter of minutes.
